Dahlias are a gorgeous addition to your garden and they are easy to grow once you understand what they need to thrive especially in a high and dry climate like Colorado! After my class, you will have the knowledge you need to be successful growing the sun-loving 'diva' of the garden.
The dahlia has a spectacular diversity with thousands of varieties in sizes from 2" pompon to 12" dinner plate, 20 forms and all of the colors of the rainbow - except blue! The dahlia has something for everyone. It's one of the rare flowers that will bloom continuously for several months August through October.
From 9 am till noon, we will have a fun-filled morning together! Brunch, socializing and learning the different forms and colors will start us off. We will then go into more details about garden conditions your dahlias will need to thrive. Then, you'll be given special materials to make your own flower journal.
Learn to Grow Dahlias workshop is $149 per person and that includes brunch and flower journal materials. The workshop will be held in the library of the Western Museum of Mining & Industry located across from the Air Force Academy at 225 North Gate Blvd and I-25 freeway. Ample and free parking.
After our three hours together, you can purchase tubers for $10 a piece that you want to grow. You can also take a tour of the dahlia farm and/or the mining museum (daily 1:00 pm museum tour has a separate admission fee - learn more about this educational institution at www.wmmi.org).
Before the workshop, read dahlia resources like Erin's book that you can buy with the link below. Also, I co-author and publish the monthly E-News for the American Dahlia Society (ADS) and you can sign up at www.dahlia.org/newsletter. I will help you learn how to keep your garden disease-free with proper dahlia hygiene
Contact me with your name, email and date choice (March 8 or 22). You will pay for your class ($149) after our time together and if you want to purchase tubers ($10 each), you can do so with one charge. Please notify me within 24 hours if you need to cancel so I can contact someone on the wait list.
Whether you prefer to buy dahlias from me or you want to learn how to grow your own, together we have a unique kinship along the front range. My dahlias / tubers are grown and sold on the grounds of the mining museum. This special non-profit benefits from your purchases and participation. Thank you!
